"A classical design that embodies the form, style, and design of the turn-of-the century Staunton pattern Chess sets that were produced by the legendary firm Jaques of London."

The House of Staunton is proud to offer the Marshall Series Chess set. A full club-sized Chess set, it features a 4.4" King with a 2.0"diameter base. The Chess pieces are hand carved by our master artisans and crafted out of the highest grade woods. The Chess pieces are heavily weighted with gold embossed English Leather base pads under the Kings, luxurious billiard cloth base pads on the other Chess pieces and a beautiful finish. The design of the Marshall Series Chess set captures the form, style, and craftsmanship of the turn-of-the century Staunton pattern Chess that were produced by Jaques of London, a period that is widely regard by Chess collectors as having the finest Staunton Chess sets ever produced. The Marshall Series Chess set is the quintessential Staunton Pattern Chess set, the physical embodiment of the classical design and proportions that have made the Staunton Pattern the standard for all Chess sets.

As with all of our Chess sets, the Marshall Series exemplifies a perfect combination of distinct beauty and functionality. It has been designed to withstand the rigors of practical play while maintaining an elegance which has become the hallmark of a House of Staunton chess set. The design, quality and craftsmanship of this set is UNMATCHED by any set of Chessmen in its price range. Nothing even comes close!

The Chessmen are new and each set consists of 34 Chessmen, including four Queens, a standard that was introduced by The House of Staunton over 10 years ago.

The Chess Set comes with a personalized Certificate of Authenticity and an original manufacturer's plaque indicating the production number, with an adhesivebacking that would allow it to be affixed to the underside of a Chess box.

  • Italian Game and Evan's Gambit
The Italian Game (sometimes referred to as the Giuoco Piano) is one of the oldest openings around, and also one of the first lines a player learns when he or she is introduced to chess. It leads to play that is easy to understand: both sides develop their pieces logically and begin attacks on the opposing kings. The Italian Game gives both White and Black the opportunity to play either aggressively and in gambit fashion, or in a restrained and positional manner. One of White's most exciting and attacking options is the legendary Evans Gambit, which has been brought back into the limelight in this modern era by such uncompromising players as World Champion Garry Kasparov, Alexander Morozevich, and England's Nigel Short.

This gets us to the main lines, the Three Knights and Four Knights Game with the Belgrade Gambit included(the 1st time GM Evans ever recommended a gambit!). These 'hold the draw in hand and go for the win' openings have been researched like never before. There is more dynamic play, for those that know them, than ever realized.
