    Book Description

This is 534-page one-of-a-kind chess book belongs in every serious chess player's library. It contains all of the useful, practical, information from over 400 chess books (plus many other sources). It is jam-packed with principles, tips, techniques, tricks, rules-of-thumb, general advice, and chess pearls of wisdom from the Masters. As a result, it contains more helpful information than certainly any other chess book in history.

By eliminating the diagrams, games, variations and excessive examples, the book is about 40,000 pages shorter, 8 feet thinner, 188 pounds lighter than it would be... and it saves you about $8,000! If you want examples, you can get them from many other books and games. However, if you want a single book that covers nearly all of the essential concepts in chess; this is definitely the book for you. Being all text, you can take it with you wherever you go and read it (without a board). You can read it in your recliner, on a train, at the beach, in a restaurant, in the bathtub... almost anywhere (although probably not in the shower or while driving).

You might be wondering if, without variations and examples, it can be easily comprehended. Well, aren't visualization and the process of doing things in your head at the very core of playing chess (not to mention the learning process itself)? Actually, the information is more likely to be retained by conceptualizing it. Take a look at the Introduction and Contents to get an idea just how comprehensive the book is. Is this book for all chess players? Actually, it should be very beneficial for almost all chess players from beginner up to about the master level.

This book is for serious students of the game. It is also ideal for chess teachers. It is a textbook designed for the purpose of dispensing chess knowledge.

A Modern Guide to a Fascinating Chess Opening
The Blackmar-Diemer Gambit is a dangerous attacking opening which has amassed a cult following amongst club players, a loyal band of supporters like no other in chess. White sacrifices a pawn in return for a strong initiative which tests Black's defensive capabilities to the limit. Some experts have questioned its objective soundness, but there's no doubting its success and popularity over the board, where pressure and a ticking clock often means it's impossible to find the right defence.

Book Description At the time of the first edition, this opening was just becoming popular in Grandmaster chess. It soon became a hot item and for this edition we had over 20,000 games in our database. Champions of the defense include Grandmasters Agdestein, Dolmatov, Gleizerov (more than 100 games!), Glek, Karlsson, Moskalenko, Nikolic, Ulibin, and Vaisser. The theory is now pretty well established. I recommend that you start by studying the Overview below and looking at the games cited in the next paragraphs. I have concentrated on the lines most frequently seen in high level games. The opening is so absurdly transpositional that there is no way to organize it exhaustively. The most important thing is to note where the pieces usually land. About the Author(s) Eric Schiller (born March 20, 1955 in New York City) is an American chess player, trainer, arbiter and one of the most prolific authors of books on chess in the 20th century. In 1974, Schiller was the Illinois Junior Champion. Schiller played for the University of Chicago team several times at the Pan American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship. He was an organizer of the Hawaii International chess festivals 1994-98 including 1998 US Open California Champion 1995. Later that year, he appeared as a chess adviser for the music group Phish on some of the stops for their "Chess Tour" where they played an ongoing game of two chess moves per tour stop and some "band vs. audience" partial games as part of their stage performance. Schiller was an arbiter at several notable games and championships including the FIDE World Chess Championship 2000. While Vladimir Kramnik and Garry Kasparov opted not to participate in the event, they had both endorsed Schiller for this sensitive role during the planning stages. As of April 2009, Schiller has a FIDE rating of 2166. He is also an International Arbiter and International Trainer. Schiller's expertise and publications in the Flohr-Zaitsev Variation made him a sought-after expert when Gary Kasparov used that opening at the second game at the World Chess Championship 1990.

The King's Indian has always been one of the sharpest, most complex and popular openings that Black can play; it still provides the setting for many encounters at the elite level of Grandmaster chess. Straight from the start, Black fights for the initiative and in many variations, while White pursues material gains, it is Black who has the psychological advantage of trying checkmate the opponent's king.
