    • Fundamentals of Isolated Queen Pawn Positions - Chess Lecture - Volume 64
An isolated pawn or “isolani” is a pawn which has no friendly pawn on an adjacent file. Isolated pawns are usually thought of as a weakness because they cannot be protected by other pawns. Many textbook openings create at least one isolated pawn but are nevertheless accepted as orthodox because of the advantages they create. With an isolated pawn you can have improved development and associated opportunities for counter play that offset or even outweigh the weaknesses associated with the pawn's isolation.

    • The Queen's Gambit and Friends - 2 DVDs - Chess Lecture - Volume 95
      By FM Dennis Monokroussos
The Queen's Gambit is one of the oldest known chess openings. In early modern chess, queen pawn openings were not in fashion, and the Queen's Gambit did not become common until the 1873 tournament in Vienna. As the appreciation for positional play increased and was developed by both Steinitz and Tarrasch the Queen's Gambit grew more popular. The Queen's Gambit is still frequently played and it remains an important part of many grandmasters opening repertoires.

    • Ideas Behind the Bogo-Indian - Chess Lecture - Volume 57
The Bogo-Indian, named after Efim Bogoliubov is not as popular as the Queen's Indian, but is seen occasionally at all levels. The Bogo-Indian is the position arising after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 is common. The traditional move for White here is 3.Nc3, threatening to set up a big pawn centre with 4.e4. However, 3.Nf3 is often played instead as a way of avoiding the Nimzo-Indian Defense (which would follow after 3.Nc3 Bb4). After 3.Nf3, Black usually plays 3...b6 (TheQueen’s Indian Defense ) or 3...d5 (leading to the Queen’s Gambit Declined), but can instead play 3...Bb4+, which is The Bogo-Indian
