The Spanish Fianchetto - Sam Collins
    Catalog Code: WIN0501CB

In the fight for playable, unbalanced positions after 1.e4 e5, many top players (including World Champion Magnus Carlsen) turned to 3…g6 against the Ruy Lopez (2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5). Black aims for a kingside fianchetto combined, depending on White’s reaction, with …Nf6 or a quick …f5. In this DVD, Sam Collins explains the key ideas of 3…g6 and provides a complete repertoire for Black, suitable for regular use.

The onus is typically on the player with the Isolated Queen’s Pawn to find dynamic resources that compensate their structural weakness. The aim of this DVD is to offer the viewer tactical exercises that also illustrate the attacking prospects within IQP positions, and as the ensuing positions can arise from so many different openings, the content of the DVD emphasizes the importance of understanding this type of pawn structure.

    A Dynamic Weapon Against the Queen's Gambit Decline - 5. bf4 - Simon Williams
    Catalog Code: WIN0456CB

This DVD concentrates on the increasingly popular 5.Bf4 variation of the Queen’s Gambit Declined and gives White a dynamic and aggressive weapon against Black’s set-up. White puts his bishop on f4 to avoid the exchanges that often occur after 5.Bg5 and as early as possible wants to put pressure on Black. At the highest level the variation with 5.Bf4 has become much more popular than the more traditional 5.Bg5 line. Top players such as Alexei Shirov, Vladimir Kramnik, Levon Aronian, Wesley So and Anish Giri play it, and Vishy Anand used it in his only victory over Carlsen in the 2014 World Chess Championship. This DVD recommends dynamic lines for White against all set-ups by Black and gives you a good, aggressive, and reliable weapon against the Queen’s Gambit Declined.

Never too Late for the Nimzo-Indian - Victor Bologan
    Catalog Code: WIN0356CB

Bologans way to the Nimzo-Indian was very long and difficult. Which he now regrets a lot: “I would better start it when I was young. First I played only the King’s Indian against 1.d4, later I learned Black’s Knights Tango, which already had some elements of the Nimzo-Indian and only in the new millenium I included the Nimzo Indian into my repertoire.” This period coincided with the period of winning the Dortmund 2003 tournament, when he managed to hold with Black against Vladimir Kramnik in the decisive last round in a Nimzo with 4.Qc2. The Moldavian grandmaster recommends the Nimzo-Indian to players of all levels, because it’s complex and simple at the same time. It teaches one very important thing in chess - how to play with the knight against a bishop. The Nimzo- Indian therefore has the same importance as the Ruy Lopez after 1.e4. This DVD is aimed to give Black a clear idea what to do against 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 which is considered the strongest move order by White. Video running time: 4 hours 14 min. On this DVD, we will look at a simple-to-learn yet surprisingly effective system that White can play after 1 d4 d5. In all cases White will play 2 c4 - and if given the chance, 3 cxd5! This leads to fixed pawn structures where piece play takes center stage, and in these systems, White’s pieces are always stronger than Black’s! The main ideas and concepts are thoroughly explained by taking a detailed look at how the best players in the world handle this system.

The Complex Najdorf - A Complete Repertoire for Black - GM Victor Bologan
    Catalog Code: WIN0480CB

When choosing an opening repertoire, it is common to consider two types of variations. One is usually a solid opening, like 1...e5 against 1.e4, with plenty of strategical ideas and quiet paths of play. However, there are of course days when you want to play for a win with Black, when you want to bear down on your opponent’s position with a potentially crushing attack. The Najdorf is perfect for just such occasions – and it’s no coincidence that Garry Kasparov played it the most out of all the variations in the Sicilian – the opening served him well throughout his brilliant career. I myself have played it with both colours, but even I discover more to its endless depths every day! Strategy, combinations, attack and defence, sacrifices and marvelous manoeuvres – exciting chess is all about the Najdorf!

1.e4 e5 - An Active Repertoire for Black - Adrian Mikhalchishin
    Catalog Code: WIN0352CB

For young and developing players a very important piece of advice is to study open positions and to understand the value of coordination of the pieces plus the role of the centre. These goals can be achieved just by answering 1.e4 with 1...e5. Some players claim that these positions are not sharp and interesting enough, and they believe that different Sicilians should be one’s choice, but that is not completely correct. The idea of this DVD is to show that 1.e4 e5 can be extremely entertaining and that Black can obtain interesting counterplay in every opening. There are two lines proposed in the Spanish systems plus the most active alternatives against other white choices. Video running time: 6 h 48 min. Winning with the Ruy Lopez 2 - Viktor Bologan
    Steinitz, Anti-Marshall, Open & Co.
    Catalog Code: WIN0345CB

Really, among the open games the only opening with which White can really fight for an advantage in the long term is the Ruy Lopez. But in order to make this serious effort, he has buckle down and learn a whole series of sub-variations. That is what the professionals do, including of course Viktor Bologan, who now reveals the secrets of his own grandmaster repertoire. On his second Ruy Lopez DVD Viktor Bologan shows how things continue after 3...a6 4.Ba4. Black has some possible deviations before we reach the main lines which are dealt with in Part 3. These include the solid Steinitz Defence and the Archangelsk Variation which has again been brought up to date. In the Open Ruy Lopez quite different types of positions are reached - and White need to understand these too. And our author prefers to avoid the Marshall Attack - so he suggests the Anti-Marshall beginning with 8.h3. Video running time: 5 hrs 20 min. System requirements: Pentium-Processor at 300 Mhz or higher, 64 MB RAM, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, DVD drive, mouse, soundcard Return Information for Software & DVDs Computer Software and DVDs can only be returned or exchanged if the product is in its original, sealed packaging and has not been installed or used in any way. Opening
    Catalog Code: WIN0401CB

This DVD is intended in the first line to offer strategical guidance for Black on the Leningrad Dutch, based on the examination of the most typical structures. For objectivity’s sake I have examined both sides of the medal, putting the main strategic dangers aside with the typical plans. I have included all my earlier database articles published in Chessbase Magazine, a database with all the games to which I have referred in the videos as well as a small database with essential games that one should know.

Play the Pirc Like a Grandmaster - Attacking Lines - Mihail Marin - VOL. 2
    Catalog Code: WIN0431CB

Is there an absolute truth in a flexible opening such as the Pirc Defense? After I had played and studied the Pirc intensively for more than ten years I was sure I had found the best move order against each White system. Then I stopped playing the opening for a while and when I checked new ideas I realized that things were not that simple. Thus, the repertoire I recommend on this DVD is a combination of good lines in my old repertoire that have stood the test of time and new lines inspired by my fresh look at the Pirc. When playing the Pirc one must know what to do against White‘s attacking systems.

The DVD is divided into two parts. In the first section, we look at what happens when White avoids the endgame in the “Anti-Berlin” systems, while the second section deals with the Berlin ending. In the classical system of the King’s Indian White develops naturally and refrains from chasing ghosts looking for a refutation of Black’s set-up. White instead relies on the fact that natural play should yield him a small but lasting advantage. Many great players of the past and the present have used and use this system successfully. The videos explaining the Mar del Plata Attack (which form the main part of this DVD) offer strategic guidance and show typical tactical ideas, while presenting a detailed, solid and aggressive repertoire.

The Triangle Setup - Michal Krasenkow
    A Complete Defense Against 1. d4
    Catalog Code: WIN0440CB

The Semi-Slav defense (1.d4 d5 followed by ...e7-e6 and ...c7-c6) is one of the most popular opening set-ups for Black. Black can follow two entirely different concepts. One includes an early ...Ng8-f6 and leads to a number of popular and deeply analysed systems: the Meran, the Anti-Meran, the Botvinnik, the Moscow, the Anti- Moscow, the Westphalian, etc. The other, in which Black refrains from ...Ng8-f6 at an early stage, is presented by GM Michal Krasenkow on this DVD. Black keeps a choice between two double-edged interesting systems: the Noteboom variation (1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c6 4.Nf3 dxc4) and the Stonewall (...f7-f5) if White plays an early e2-e3. Of course Black’s decision to refrain from an early ...Ng8-f6 gives White other options, the most important being the Slav gambit (1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c6 4.e4 etc.). Therefore Black’s set-up may lead to a whole range of different and interesting positions, which help the black player to broaden his strategic and tactical understanding. This makes the Noteboom/Stonewall opening repertoire a particularly good choice for young, aspiring players.

How to Crack the Berlin Wall with 5. Re1 - Alexei Shirov
    Catalog Code: WIN0503CB

The Berlin Defence which arises after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nf6 4.O-O Nxe4 gives White a hard nut to crack, and the solidity of the line led to its nickname “Berlin Wall”. The mainline 5.d4 in particular leads to positions in which White has had trouble to prove any advantage. On this DVD Latvian top player Alexei Shirov proposes a different approach. He recommends to play 5.Re1 which leads to a symmetrical position that according to Shirov is not boring at all. With a whole range of grandmaster games Shirov shows that White can indeed develop pressure and seize the initiative and that the position is full of subtleties.
