    POWER PLAY - Attacking with 1. e4 - PART II - Daniel King - VOLUME 19
    Catalog Code: WIN0443CB

This DVD provides you with a repertoire of attacking lines against: The Scandinavian, Alekhine’s Defence, The Petroff, The Philidor, The Pirc, The Modern Defence (1. e4 g6). Many of these openings are very popular in club chess, yet they are often underestimated by players of the white pieces. Using his wealth of experience playing with 1 e4, Grandmaster Daniel King explains the openings and provides you with an aggressive system against each of them. This is the second part of Daniel King’s project ‘Attack with 1 e4’ (part I dealt with the Sicilian, the French, The Caro Kann and 1...e5). King’s recommendations aim to put your opponent under pressure right from the start of the game, and when players are under pressure, mistakes occur. This is a practical repertoire – if we study openings we want to be sure to use them in our games. After just a few moves, you will be dictating play.

Winning Against the Grunfeld - Mihail Marin
    Catalog Code: WIN0414CB

The Grünfeld is a highly dynamic opening in which Black’s position often seems to hang together by a single thread; and yet, this apparently precarious equilibrium appears to be enough to make it entirely viable - up to the highest level.

This DVD is a good investment if you are serious about the Nimzo-Indian and can follow the theoretical lines in this depth. A lower-rated player should consult a book that covers the basic ideas of the opening before proceeding.

The Triangle Setup - Michal Krasenkow
    A Complete Defense Against 1. d4
    Catalog Code: WIN0440CB

The Semi-Slav defense (1.d4 d5 followed by ...e7-e6 and ...c7-c6) is one of the most popular opening set-ups for Black. Black can follow two entirely different concepts. One includes an early ...Ng8-f6 and leads to a number of popular and deeply analysed systems: the Meran, the Anti-Meran, the Botvinnik, the Moscow, the Anti- Moscow, the Westphalian, etc. The other, in which Black refrains from ...Ng8-f6 at an early stage, is presented by GM Michal Krasenkow on this DVD. Black keeps a choice between two double-edged interesting systems: the Noteboom variation (1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c6 4.Nf3 dxc4) and the Stonewall (...f7-f5) if White plays an early e2-e3. Of course Black’s decision to refrain from an early ...Ng8-f6 gives White other options, the most important being the Slav gambit (1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c6 4.e4 etc.). Therefore Black’s set-up may lead to a whole range of different and interesting positions, which help the black player to broaden his strategic and tactical understanding. This makes the Noteboom/Stonewall opening repertoire a particularly good choice for young, aspiring players.

Ruy Lopez - Attack with the Schliemann - Sam Collins
    Catalog Code: WIN0457CB

The Schliemann (or Jaenisch) Gambit, 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 f5, languished in semi-obscurity before top GM Teimour Radjabov revolutionised the opening with new ideas, defending his analysis with excellent results in Linares and elsewhere against the world’s best players. Black plays actively and aggressively from move 3, frequently sacrificing a pawn for open lines, kingside activity and the bishop pair. In this DVD Sam Collins provides a complete and detailed repertoire for Black. Numerous novelties and improvements are suggested, with the conclusion that White has no clear route to an opening advantage. Refresh your repertoire and avoid the Spanish Torture with 3…f5!

Play the Pirc Like a Grandmaster - Positional Lines - Mihail Marin - VOL. 1
    Catalog Code: WIN0430CB

Is there an absolute truth in a flexible opening such as the Pirc Defense? After I had played and studied the Pirc intensively for more than ten years I was sure I had found the best move order against each White system. Then I stopped playing the opening for a while and when I checked new ideas I realized that things were not that simple. Thus, the repertoire I recommend on this DVD is a combination of good lines in my old repertoire that have stood the test of time and new lines inspired by my fresh look at the Pirc.

This DVD offers White a complete repertoire against the classical Slav, a popular opening, in which Black can choose from a wide range of plans. In the Slav White often has more space but to turn this into an advantage he needs to know the typical strategic and tactical motifs of the opening and has to develop a feeling for the nuances of the position.

Beating the Berlin Defense - Alexei Shirov
    Catalog Code: WIN0341CB

Ever since the Kasparov-Kramnik World Championship Match held in London in 2000, players with the white pieces have been trying to crack the formidable Berlin Wall in the Ruy Lopez. There may also have been some successes for White of course, but time and again Black has convincingly demonstrated how to equalize or even how to construct an impregnable fortress. The situation from White's point of view has become precarious

Smith-Morra Gambit - Shattering the Sicilian - EMPIRE CHESS
    Catalog Code: DVD0035EP

The Smith-Morra Gambit is an extremely effective surprise weapon because many Sicilian Defense players wrongly believe the Smith-Morra to be outdated and easily refutable. While the Smith-Morra Gambit is rarely seen at the elite Grandmaster level, it remains a strong opening for white against the Sicilian Defense as black is guaranteed to face long-lasting, unpleasant pressure in every part of the board.

    The Modern Vienna Game
    Catalog Code: B0109EU

The Vienna set-up aims for very aggressive play, which often includes sacrifices. But White prefers to be on the safe side, without burning all the bridges and to try to justify his actions from the point of view of positional play as well. At first, he deploys his minor pieces to active positions, then he advances the thematic move f4, castles (usually on the kingside) and begins an attack only after all this. Despite the fact that the move 2.Nc3 has been played for more than a hundred years, there has not been defined a clear-cut scheme for playing this set-up.

    Fighting the French
    A New Concept
    Catalog Code: B0074EU

Nowadays the French Defence 1...e6 is one of the most popular openings in response to 1.e4. I'd like to suggest a new concept of combating it. White plays 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2 and then deploys his pieces according to the scheme Ngf3, Bd3, c3, 0-0, against almost anything that Black may play. This will usually lead to exchanges in the centre and the appearance of an isolated queen's pawn for White.
