    Catalog Code: SWB0371EM

The Nimzo-Larsen Attack is an ideal opening choice for players keen to avoid mainline theory but still wanting to set their opponents problems from the outset. In the Nimzo-Larsen, White begins 1 b3 and then develops in hypermodern fashion – planning to undermine any central structures Black dares to erect. A key attraction of the Nimzo-Larsen is that White can steer the game into either sharp play or elaborate strategic battles. In this book, International Master Cyrus Lakdawala invites you to join him in examining the many different variations of the Nimzo-Larsen. Lakdawala studies the typical plans and tactics for both sides, offers repertoire options for White, provides answers to all the key questions and tells you everything you need to know about playing the Nimzo-Larsen Attack.

A Complete System for Black Against the English Opening - Chess Lecture - Volume 65
    Catalog Code: DVD0065CL

The English derives its name from the English (unofficial) World Champion, Howard Staunton (1843). The English has caught on in the twentieth century and is now recognized as a solid opening that may be used to reach both classical and hypermodern positions. Although many lines of the English have a distinct character, the opening is often used as a transpositional device in much the same way as 1.Nf3 – to avoid such highly regarded responses to 1.d4 as the Nimzo-Indian and Grunfeld defences – and is considered reliable and flexible.

    Attack with the Boden-Kieseritzky-Morphy Gambit
    Catalog Code: B0091IS

The Boden-Kieseritzky-Morphy Gambit is lightly regarded and is never played by grandmasters, but it has one of the best records for White of any opening played below the master level. It scores a phenomenal 62% in all games in the chess databases. This book examines an opening which can be quite useful for beginners and amateur chess players. The gambit we will examine (1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 Nf6 3.Nf3!? or 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4!?) has been used by Paul Morphy among other strong players. In my view it is as good a gambit as most others.

Ideas Behind the Bogo-Indian - Chess Lecture - Volume 57
    Catalog Code: DVD0057CL

The Bogo-Indian, named after Efim Bogoliubov is not as popular as the Queen's Indian, but is seen occasionally at all levels. The Bogo-Indian is the position arising after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 is common. The traditional move for White here is 3.Nc3, threatening to set up a big pawn centre with 4.e4. However, 3.Nf3 is often played instead as a way of avoiding the Nimzo-Indian Defense (which would follow after 3.Nc3 Bb4). After 3.Nf3, Black usually plays 3...b6 (TheQueen’s Indian Defense ) or 3...d5 (leading to the Queen’s Gambit Declined), but can instead play 3...Bb4+, which is The Bogo-Indian

Queen's Gambit Accepted - Smyslov Variation
    Catalog Code: B0083IS

The Smyslov Variation was developed by World Chess Champion Vasily Smyslov and used in top level competitions by him and by other World Champions. One advantage is that it can be used frequently. If White plays 1. d4 and Black responds with 1. ...d5, White will almost always play 2. c4. Then after the natural moves 2. ...dxc4 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. e3, Black can play 4. ...g6 which is the Smyslov Variation. The Smyslov Variation is a form of the Queen's Gambit Accepted.
