Reti - A Repertoire for White - Victor Bologan
    Catalog Code: WIN0518CB

The development of the knight to f3, followed by the attack on the centre with c4, was played by almost all great champions of the past. The most valuable investment into this opening was made by Richard Reti, who scored a couple of victories with it in the 1920s, but what would it look like without Capablanca’s games or Smyslov’s fine ideas? Nowadays the main protagonist of 1.Nf3 with White is Vladimir Kramnik, who has in my opinion the deepest strategical knowledge and understanding in chess. Especially the Reti is designed for those players who like strategy, manoeuvres and plans. Who like to avoid opening tons of theory, the jungle of forced lines. In this DVD, I tried to deal with all possible Black reactions against 1.Nf3. Naturally, there is much theory left outside of it, but a repertoire for White for sure is inside.

The Complex Najdorf - A Complete Repertoire for Black - GM Victor Bologan
    Catalog Code: WIN0480CB

When choosing an opening repertoire, it is common to consider two types of variations. One is usually a solid opening, like 1...e5 against 1.e4, with plenty of strategical ideas and quiet paths of play. However, there are of course days when you want to play for a win with Black, when you want to bear down on your opponent’s position with a potentially crushing attack. The Najdorf is perfect for just such occasions – and it’s no coincidence that Garry Kasparov played it the most out of all the variations in the Sicilian – the opening served him well throughout his brilliant career. I myself have played it with both colours, but even I discover more to its endless depths every day! Strategy, combinations, attack and defence, sacrifices and marvelous manoeuvres – exciting chess is all about the Najdorf!

The Modern Scotch Opening - Parimarjan Negi
    Catalog Code: WIN0429CB

The Scotch has long been associated with exciting play, although people often doubt it’s positional base. But the opening has evolved from the swashbuckling games of the 19th century to become a sound, but aggressive, alternative to the evergreen Spanish. In his first Fritz-Trainer DVD, Parimarjan Negi looks at the latest revolution in Scotch theory that has completely changed white’s plans, and once again brought back the interest of the world’s elite. Negi presents not only the white strategies in detail but also outlines a dynamic way for Black to counter this latest trend.

    The 4... Nf6 Caro-Kann - Nigel Davies
    Catalog Code: WIN0497CB

The dynamic 4...Nf6 line of the Caro-Kann has been unfashionable in recent years whilst the theory on 4...Bf5 and 4...Nd7 now extends well into the middle game. 4…Nf6 therefore offers a golden opportunity for Caro-Kann players to throw their opponents on their own resources – and here even top Grandmasters can go wrong. On this DVD Nigel Davies examines both the Bronstein-Larsen (5.Nxf6+ gxf6) and the Tartakower (5.Nxf6+ exf6) systems.

Beat the Queen's Indian - The Modern Fianchetto Line - GM Simon Williams
    Catalog Code: WIN0481CB

This DVD is packed full of new, exciting and novel ideas; based on a repertoire starting with the moves 1 d4 Nf6 2 c4 e6 3 Nf3 with g3! to follow. Currently this is the most testing way to challenge players who prefer the Nimzo. White develops sensibly - but has aggressive intentions in mind! On this DVD, I will tell you everything you need to know to play this way as White, but the DVD will also be of interest to players who are unsure what to do against 3 Nf3 - giving you a repertoire with Black as well

The Ruy Lopez Breyer Variation - Pavel Eljanov
    Catalog Code: WIN0468CB

The Spanish Opening is often called the ''Queen of Openings''. If you master this opening, you understand a lot about chess. One of the most popular systems in the Spanish Opening is the Breyer variation, in which Black retreats his already developed knight from c6 to b8 to relocate it via d7 to better square. On this DVD, Pavel Eljanov, one of the greatest experts of the Breyer variation, shows all important variations of this system. In 14 video lectures he gives an overview of the current state of theory.

    Nimzowitsch Defence - 1. e4 Nc6 - Andrew Martin
    Catalog Code: WIN0485CB

Nimzo’s other defence, 1 e4 Nc6!?, is a fascinating opening which can lead to diverse types of positions. Black is not committed to anything; in fact he may encounter different pawn structures and varied development plans out of the variations that arise. On this all-new ChessBase DVD, FIDE Senior Trainer Andrew Martin maps out an aggressive repertoire for Black, which is ideal for the club player.

The Sicilian Tajmanov-Scheveningen - Alejandro Ramirez
A Safe Path Through the Sicilian Jungle
    Catalog Code: WIN0425CB

The Sicilian has been known for decades as the most reliable way for Black to obtain an unbalanced but good position. Among the most popular Sicilians at the top level the two that certainly stand out are the Najdorf and the Paulsen. Unlike the Najdorf, the Paulsen provides a safer and more positionally based way of fighting against 1.e4. Black is able to obtain adequate counterplay in all variations without going for a do-or-die type of attack.

Trends in Modern Openings 2015 - Rustam Kasimdzhanov
    Catalog Code: WIN0460CB

Modern tournament practice has virtually surpassed the so-called ''opening theory''. Thanks to a wealth of tournament games some openings and lines develop so rapidly that even the ambitious amateur has difficulties to keep his own repertoire updated. On this DVD Kasimdzhanov presents highly topical openings and shows their current state of theory. From the perspective of a top player he explains why certain openings are played while others more or less vanished from tournament practice. This DVD helps you to remain up-to-date in a number of important and popular openings and provides you with many ideas for your own repertoire.

Fighting Against the Caro-Kann with the Advance Variation - Victor Bologan
    A Repertoire for White
    Catalog Code: WIN0424CB

The Caro-Kann Defence is one of the most solid replies for Black after 1.e4. I’ve played it myself for many years with black, so I know how difficult is to gain an advantage with white. My choice of the Advance Variation for White is because of the complex strategical play in which White has a long-term space advantage. - Victor Bologan

    The Stonewall Dutch - A Fighting Repertoire Against 1. d4 - Erwin L'Ami
    Catalog Code: WIN0506CB

When opening theory is growing exponentially, it is great to have an opening that is mainly based on ideas: the Dutch Stonewall! Players such as Mikhail Botwinnik and Magnus Carlsen liked this system, in which Black from the very first move fights for the initiative. On this DVD Grandmaster Erwin l’Ami, second of world class player Anish Giri, takes the viewer on a fascinating journey to show him the depth and attractions of this attractive opening. At the end of the journey you will have a new fighting repertoire against 1.d4!

The Semi-Slav - A Grandmaster's Guide for the Tournament Player - Peter Heine Nielsen
    Catalog Code: WIN0492CB

The Semi-Slav (1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.Nc3 c6) can arise via various moveorders, has decided World Championships, and is one of Black’s most fascinating replies to 1 d4. The complexity and the many possibilities of the variation have intrigued World Champions and generations of strong players, but amateurs often find the lines too complex to handle.

If Black replies in traditional fashion with 1...e5, this is a Reversed Sicilian. We have devoted four videos to the various systems, Lars Schandorff will take you through the Reversed Dragon, the English Four Knights, the Botvinnik System and alternatives.

Play the Pirc Like a Grandmaster - Attacking Lines - Mihail Marin - VOL. 2
    Catalog Code: WIN0431CB

Is there an absolute truth in a flexible opening such as the Pirc Defense? After I had played and studied the Pirc intensively for more than ten years I was sure I had found the best move order against each White system. Then I stopped playing the opening for a while and when I checked new ideas I realized that things were not that simple. Thus, the repertoire I recommend on this DVD is a combination of good lines in my old repertoire that have stood the test of time and new lines inspired by my fresh look at the Pirc. When playing the Pirc one must know what to do against White‘s attacking systems.

    1. e4 - How to Tame the Alekhine, Scandinavian and Pirc - Viktor Bologan
    Catalog Code: WIN0381CB

While almost everybody is spending 95% of his opening preparation time on major lines, there are some tricky players including strong GMs (I am not an exception) who prepare for their opponents some side lines, which contain many an underwater reef. I decided to collect those secondary openings in one single DVD. From now on openings such as the Pirc, the Scandinavian and the Alekhine Defences will not appear to you in your nightmares any more. The 1.e4 player should be actually thank Black for choosing these openings, since he is providing White with a better centre, a stable advantage and generally speaking pleasant play. The only thing White needs to do is to spend some time studying the lines. I will not bother you with encyclopaedic approach. There is a more practical way.

The English Opening - Simon WIlliams - VOL. 1
    Catalog Code: WIN0463CB

This English Opening was my first love and this was the opening that I used to progress from the rank amateur player to 2400+ International Master. I will now share my secrets of this opening with you, in the hope that the English Opening can help you improve in a similar way. My main teaching method behind this set of two DVDs is to teach you some simple yet effective set ups, without the need to rely on memorising numerous complicated variations. I have explained what you are trying to achieve with each move and set up, then you will know what plans to put into motion in the middlegame and endgame.

The Fashionable Caro-Kann - Vol 1 - Main Lines and Side Lines - Vidit Gujrathi
    Catalog Code: WIN0513CB

The Caro Kann is a very tricky opening. Black’s play is based on controlling and fighting for key light squares. I have analyzed the new trends carefully and found some new ideas for Black. The dynamic play based on a strong strategic foundation has always fascinated me, and in these DVDs I have suggested the lines which I personally prefer and employ in practice. Recently at the World Rapid and Blitz Championships at Qatar I used many of them with great success, managing to score important wins over top GMs Vachier Lagrave, Radjabov, Jobava and drawing against Vishy Anand.

Modern tournament practice has virtually surpassed the so-called ''opening theory''. Thanks to a wealth of tournament games some openings and lines develop so rapidly that even the ambitious amateur has difficulties to keep his own repertoire updated. But experts help. Ex- FIDE-World Champion Rustam Kasimzhanov is considered to be one of the leading experts in the field of opening preparation. In three World Championship matches he was second of Viswanathan Anand and helped him to successfully defend the title. And with Kasimdzhanov’s help and excellent opening preparation the German team surprisingly became European Team Champion 2011. On this DVD Kasimdzhanov presents highly topical openings and shows their current state of ''theory''. From the perspective of a top player he explains why certain openings are played while others more or less vanished from tournament practice. This DVD helps you to remain up-to-date in a number of important and popular openings and provides you with many ideas for your own repertoire.

Evan's Gambit for the New Generation - Simon Williams
    Catalog Code: WIN0500CB

The Evans is an attempt to destroy Black in gambit fashion straight out of the opening and giants of previous years such as Adolf Andersson and Paul Morphy played lots of brilliancies with it. But the Evans Gambit has stood up to the test of time and in the modern era players such as Garry Kasparov, Hikaru Nakamura or Wei Yi have tried it with success. This DVD will prove that the gambit is still fully playable and a great way to try and blast Black away right from move one.

The Classical Sicilian - Mihail Marin
    Catalog Code: WIN0467CB

The Sicilian family is big but the Sicilian that puts most pressure on White’s centre is the Classical Variation – Black quickly develops both knights to their most active squares. This DVD offers Black a complete repertoire against all weapons White may employ on move six. The recommended repertoire is not as risky as other Sicilians but still offers Black plenty of counter-play. It is an ideal system for players who want to enter the wonderful world of the Sicilian.

Solid and Safe Against the Wild Indians - Play the Fianchetto - Nicholas Pert
    Catalog Code: WIN0447CB

The King’s Indian and Grunfeld are notoriously tricky and theoretical openings. The Fianchetto variation avoids the main lines which Black players enjoy, and goes for a small but safe edge. Many people fear playing against the King’s Indian because of Black’s ability to attack the White King, but in the Fianchetto variation it is very hard for Black to generate any attacking chances, instead play is often positional, with White having slightly more space for his or her pieces. In this DVD, the author has gone a long way to finding the best lines for White to gain an advantage against Black’s various responses.

    King's Indian - A Modern Approach - Victor Bologan
    Catalog Code: WIN0475CB

Author Victor Bologan about his DVD: “If chess players are in Iceland, they usually pay tribute to the genius of Bobby Fischer, the 11th World Champion, by visiting his grave in Selfoss in Reykjavik. With this DVD I also want to express my gratitude to Fischer: for his great contribution to chess in general and because he helped to make the King’s Indian more popular in particular. As a junior, when I was ten years old, my coach advised me to study the openings of Fischer and I discovered the King’s Indian. Later I learned about the different approaches Black has in the King’s Indian. He can keep his structure flexible and put his pawns on d6 and c6; he can play the sharp and principled Nc6 in the classical lines and in some sidelines he can sacrifice a pawn with …b5 as in the Benko.

    Catalog Code: WIN0516CB

Black plays for the initiative and the win from the word go. It’s all about the centre. Who will be the first to dominate this important area of the board? A fierce, immediate fight breaks out, and if either player does not know what to do, a crushing defeat could be the result. This opening is ideal for club and tournament players

    A Dynamic Weapon Against the Queen's Gambit Decline - 5. bf4 - Simon Williams
    Catalog Code: WIN0456CB

This DVD concentrates on the increasingly popular 5.Bf4 variation of the Queen’s Gambit Declined and gives White a dynamic and aggressive weapon against Black’s set-up. White puts his bishop on f4 to avoid the exchanges that often occur after 5.Bg5 and as early as possible wants to put pressure on Black. At the highest level the variation with 5.Bf4 has become much more popular than the more traditional 5.Bg5 line. Top players such as Alexei Shirov, Vladimir Kramnik, Levon Aronian, Wesley So and Anish Giri play it, and Vishy Anand used it in his only victory over Carlsen in the 2014 World Chess Championship. This DVD recommends dynamic lines for White against all set-ups by Black and gives you a good, aggressive, and reliable weapon against the Queen’s Gambit Declined.

Smith-Morra Gambit - Shattering the Sicilian - EMPIRE CHESS
    Catalog Code: DVD0035EP

The Smith-Morra Gambit is an extremely effective surprise weapon because many Sicilian Defense players wrongly believe the Smith-Morra to be outdated and easily refutable. While the Smith-Morra Gambit is rarely seen at the elite Grandmaster level, it remains a strong opening for white against the Sicilian Defense as black is guaranteed to face long-lasting, unpleasant pressure in every part of the board.

Chess Openings - Theory and Practice
A Definitive Study of All Important Openings
    Catalog Code: B0293IS

Chess Openings Theory and Practice is a remarkable book, unequaled by any book of that era or since. It is not a mere openings book with long columns of moves followed at the end by punctuation marks such as + -- or =. It presents opening ideas and games, often including the first game where each opening was played, plus the history of the opening, the names of famous players who played this opening and the ideas and plans on which the opening is based. It provides ''idea variations''.
