Many chess books teach the Lucena and Philidor endgames - but most rook endgames start in much more complicated positions. The objective of this series is to show you what to do in the earlier stages, when things are more complex and you may not even be sure who is winning. One of the key ingredients is obtaining active play for your Rooks, King and Pawns if you can safely do so. Here are real life lessons over the board with examples from Dana’s own games.Content: 126 minutes of instruction and analysis in a series of 4 lectures.

Collection of Chess Studies by Troitzky

Alexey Alexeyevich Troitzky (1866-1942) is considered to have been the greatest composer of chess endgame studies ever. To call him a genius is to trivialize his accomplishments, because there are many geniuses, but few can equal the output of Troitzky. Ghenrikh M. Kasparyan (1910-1995) is considered to have been without doubt the greatest composer and analyst of chess endgame studies ever. He was so great that when a great new chess star named Kasparyan appeared on the scene, the Soviet authorities decided to change the name of the second Kasparyan to Kasparov to avoid confusion. In this book, his master work, Kasparyan first classifies endgame studies into the analytic as opposed to artistic. Analytic studies are those likely to arise in an actual game.

      365 Selected Endgames
One for Each Day of the Year
      Catalog Code: B0062IS

This book is written in both German and English. Some knowledge of both Classic notation and Algebraic (mainly the latter) is needed to follow all the notes. The book is mainly a series of fairly difficult endgame studies. I went through the book and solved each problem in the manner that the authors suggested in their preface. It helped me win many Chess tournament games that would have otherwise been draws and also draw many games that should have been lost.

      A Guide To Chess Endings
      Catalog Code: B0118IS

This book makes a fairly thorough study of those endings most likely to occur in play, especially those with rooks. This book is best worked through as a course of study, so that the underlying ideas are absorbed and a sound positional judgment is acquired it is at first not necessary to understand every nuance, far less to try to remember the more difficult variations; indeed one might pass over the sub-variations at first reading.
