New York 1889 was the strongest chess tournament ever held up until that time. It was supposed to be for the World Chess Championship, but it has never been recognized as such, primarily because Steinitz, who helped organize the event and who was present as a journalist, refused to play.

Analyse du je des d'echecs - FRENCH EDITION
    >Francois-Andre Danican Philidor (1726-1795) is widely regarded as the strongest chess player ever in history prior to the modern era. He was so much better than any of his contemporaries that it is impossible for us to know how good he really was. The edition of the book that is reprinted here was published in 1871 by C. Sanson. This shows that the original Philidor book was still the standard work on the subject one hundred years after it was first written.

    Grandmaster Chess
The Book of the Louis D. Statham Lone Pine Masters-Plus Tournament 1975
Lone Pine 1975 was the first ever truly Grandmaster Swiss event. Today, with many grandmaster Swiss events taking place every year, such as the Aeroflot Open, the Reykjavik Open, and many others, not to mention the World Open, bringing together 22 grandmasters to play in a Swiss tournament does not seem that remarkable. Even the title, Grandmaster Chess, seems to be a bit hackneyed with so many grandmaster events being played today.

He was the principal organizer of the first international chess tournament in 1851. From 1840 onwards he became a leading chess commentator, and won matches against top players of the 1840s. However, the achievement of Staunton have been neglected or even ignored by his own countrymen and this book seeks to rectify that.

    My 60 Memorable Games
    Descriptive Edition
This is an exact reproduction of the original 1969 classic work, My 60 Memorable Games by Bobby Fischer. Unfortunately, there have been many efforts by other authors and contributors to "improve" on Fischer's work by converting the text into algebraic notation and then correcting what they thought were mistakes in analysis. It turned out that what they thought were mistakes by Fischer were mistakes by themselves. Fischer's analysis was correct. Their's was wrong. As a result, Fischer famously went on the radio to denounce those who claimed to have "improved" on his work.

Church's Fried Chicken First International Chess Tournament
San Antonio 1972 was either the strongest chess tournament ever played in the history of the United States or, if not the very strongest, then second only to New York 1924. What makes this book especially great is not merely was it a great tournament with great players, but that the players annotated some of their own games. In this day and age, there are millions of games in the chess databases, but annotated games are increasingly hard to find.
