Winning Chess Strategy for Beginners - EMPIRE CHESS
      Catalog Code: DVD0024EP

Chess Strategy is the most difficult step in the road to improvement for beginners, requiring a deeper understanding of chess than simply tactics. You can think of combinations as math equations with a given, concrete result that you can prove. But strategy is more like describing the variables in this math problem and how changes will affect all aspects of the surrounding environment.

Play the Middlegame Like a Grandmaster - PART 2 - EMPIRE CHESS
      Catalog Code: DVD0026EP

The most difficult phase of the game for beginner chess players is the middlegame because it is a constant time of transition, maximum tension, and a time of combining immediate tactical needs with long-term positional ideas. Most middlegames contain nearly all of the pieces still on the board, and the friction between opponents inevitably creates conflict, requiring complete attention to avoid forcing combinations. This chess video/DVD features hours of extremely high-quality instruction by experienced chess trainer Grandmaster Damian Lemos, reviewing the basic concepts of the middlegame and how to apply them successfully in your own games.

Play Aggressive Chess Like a Grandmaster - EMPIRE CHESS
      Catalog Code: DVD0027EP

If you are not playing aggressive chess, you are not playing good chess. The game is just that simple! I have beat many players that are much higher rated than me and should be better than me, but I played more aggressively. If you come out swinging from the very first moves in a game, constantly striving to create threats and place pressure on your opponent you are going to be playing winning chess.

Understanding positional chess is one of the most difficult concepts for beginner chess players because there are no concrete rules that apply to any given position. There are general guidelines, such as avoid placing your pawns on the same color as your bishop, however there are always exceptions and every position is different.

How to Attack Like a Grandmaster - EMPIRE CHESS
      Catalog Code: DVD0029EP

The secret to winning chess games is very simple – YOU MUST ATTACK! If you like to open passively and slowly build a strong defensive position, you are playing bad chess! To win games in chess, you must be attacking. You can’t wait your opponent to make a mistake because that is not going to win you any games! The best players in the world try to create at least one threat with every single move; why can’t beginner chess players do the exact same thing?

Insane Chess Sacrifices - EMPIRE CHESS

If you want to win more games, you have to attack your opponent and can not be scared to sacrifice to break through with an attack. There are an overwhelming variety of sacrifices and reasons for making sacrifices – you could give up a pawn to seize the initiative or gain space, you could sacrifice an exchange to change the dynamic of a position, or you could make a positional sacrifice by allowing doubled, isolated pawns but gaining a dangerous attack against your opponent’s king.

Winning Chess Games in the Opening - EMPIRE CHESS
      Catalog Code: DVD0034EP

The opening is the most critical phase in chess. If you are an extremely aggressive player, from the very first moves striving to place pressure on your opponent – you will thrive in the opening and achieve great positions early in your games. However if you are a passive player and prefer to build a solid position before creating threats against your opponent’s position, you will never achieve good positions in the opening because your opponent will have a free reign to seize the initiative and start attacking you

Many players find it easy to learn the first 10-15 moves of an opening or memorize common tactical patterns, but it may be much more difficult to understand the reasons behind certain pawn moves in different positions.

      The Teenage Chess Book
      Catalog Code: B0281IS

This book is a lively result of a chess authority's attempts to help his teenage son improve his play. In writing this book, the author kept in mind the player who has little or no previous knowledge of chess. His aim has been to provide a useful practical technique for handling the game. In addition to basic information about the board, the chess men and notation, Dr. Fine in a special chapter on chess moves introduces the reader to some of the delights or more complex play. The last chapter is devoted to describing a study scheme which is bound to lead to steady improvement on one's play.

Bobby Fischer: My 60 Memorable Games - RUSSIAN EDITION
With Introductions to the Games by International Grandmaster Larry Evans
      Catalog Code: B0282IS

This is the infamous translation into Russian of the famous work by Bobby Fischer “My 60 Memorable Games”. This translation is famous because it was denounced vehemently by Bobby Fischer in his radio broadcasts because this translation was not authorized by him. However, he even more vehemently objected to the revision by the English publisher Batsford, as he had not given them permission to reprint his work even though they had a contractual right to reprint his work by virtue of an agreement they had with the original publisher, Simon and Schuster. To make matters much worse, the Batsford edition translated all the moves from Descriptive Notation as in P-K4 into Algebraic Notation as in e4. Batsford hired English Grandmaster Nunn to go through the book and correct any mistakes in Fischer's analysis. Unfortunately, in the course of “correcting” Fischer's “mistakes”, the English grandmaster made mistakes of his own, because one “correction” required an illegal move, as the piece was pinned, as otherwise the king would have been in check. So, in reality the correction was wrong and the original note by Fischer was correct.
