    Product Description

"An exact reproduction of one of the most historically important Chess sets ever produced, the Chess set used in the legendary 1972 World Chess Championship, featuring Robert J. (Bobby) Fischer (USA) and Boris Spassky (RUS)."

The House of Staunton is proud to offer the Fischer Spassky Series Chess set. A full tournament-sized Chess set, it features a 6.0" King with a 2.25" diameter base. The Chess pieces are hand carved by our master artisans and crafted out of the highest grade woods. The Chess pieces are heavily weighted with luxurious billiard cloth base pads and a glossy finish to future accentuate the details.

The design of the Fischer Spassky Series Chess Set is an exact reproduction of the Chess set used by the legendary American Grandmaster Bobby Fischer when he won the 1972 World Chess Championship against the reigning World Champion Grandmaster Boris Spassky in Reykjavik, Iceland. The Chess set has been designed to withstand years of use (and abuse), as it lacks many of the ornate details commonly found on Chess Sets that can be susceptible to damage in the heat of battle. For example, the Chess set features reinforced Pawn collars and oversized Rook ramparts for unmatched durability. The Reykjavik II Series Chess set is ideal for those that are interested in both the historical importance of the game of Chess, as well as those looking for an attractive Chess set that is both economical and durable.

As with all of our Chess sets, the Fischer Spassky Series Commemorative Chessmen exemplifies a perfect combination of distinct beauty and functionality. It has been designed to withstand the rigors of practical play while maintaining an elegance which has become the hallmark of a House of Staunton chess set. The design, quality and craftsmanship of this set is UNMATCHED by any set of Chessmen in its price range. Nothing even comes close!

The Chessmen are new and each set consists of 34 Chessmen, including four Queens, a standard that was introduced by The House of Staunton in 1993.

    1. Fischer Spassky 6 inch King Chess Set
I received the HOS Fischer Spassky 6 inch Chess Set this week in Golden Rosewood and Natural Boxwood finish. I combined this set with a 2.75 inch square HOS Striped Ebony and Bird's Eye Maple Standard Traditional Chess Board, Red Burl box and deluxe 26 inch HOS logo board bag.

I am speechless at the level of quality in these pieces! No blems or defects on any of the pieces and nice, detailed wood grain in the Rosewood finish. I was a little worried about using the 2.75 inch board instead of 3 inch since my table is a little small for the larger board. But the 2.75 inch squares work perfectly with this large 6 inch set with plenty of extra room inside each square for the base of the pieces, even the King and Queen. The 24 inch board is also much easier to carry around in the bag than the larger 3 inch-square board with less chance of banging it into things when packing it away or transporting it. The box and carry bag are also of equal outstanding quality just like the chess pieces.

I was also wondering about the playability of a large 6 inch King chess set after reading through as many reviews as I could find. But I can say after playing this set for a couple of games, the size of the pieces is a big plus in the enjoyment factor of the game for me and I'm glad I finally broke out of the realm of standard and smallish-sized sets to go with this large one.

The items all came well packed to avoid shipping damage with foam liners around the board and plenty of packing and cushioning inside the boxes to protect the set.

Just an impeccable quality, beautiful chess set with extreme care in the wood workmanship and also excellent attention paid to details with packing it all up to get it here safely. Couldn't be happier with this set and the transaction with!
