  1. An amazing collection of chess art

This 320-page book presents a selection of art from the 11th to 19th centuries showing the chess as captured by more than 700 artists. Curator and artist Peter Herel Raabenstein has amassed an incredible collection of chess-related art, so much that it can be almost overwhelming while still fascinating. The number of women shown in the paintings is refreshing, including a match between a man and woman dating from the 1100s. The breadth and depth of the works shown is astounding and impressive. The book’s production qualities are excellent. This would make an excellent addition for anyone with an interest not only in chess, but also in art and the history of the game.
