Winning with the Ruy Lopez 2 - Viktor Bologan
    Steinitz, Anti-Marshall, Open & Co.
    Catalog Code: WIN0345CB

Really, among the open games the only opening with which White can really fight for an advantage in the long term is the Ruy Lopez. But in order to make this serious effort, he has buckle down and learn a whole series of sub-variations. That is what the professionals do, including of course Viktor Bologan, who now reveals the secrets of his own grandmaster repertoire. On his second Ruy Lopez DVD Viktor Bologan shows how things continue after 3...a6 4.Ba4. Black has some possible deviations before we reach the main lines which are dealt with in Part 3. These include the solid Steinitz Defence and the Archangelsk Variation which has again been brought up to date. In the Open Ruy Lopez quite different types of positions are reached - and White need to understand these too. And our author prefers to avoid the Marshall Attack - so he suggests the Anti-Marshall beginning with 8.h3. Video running time: 5 hrs 20 min. System requirements: Pentium-Processor at 300 Mhz or higher, 64 MB RAM, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, DVD drive, mouse, soundcard Return Information for Software & DVDs Computer Software and DVDs can only be returned or exchanged if the product is in its original, sealed packaging and has not been installed or used in any way. Winning Against the Classical Slav - Mihail Marin
    Catalog Code: WIN0478CB

This DVD offers White a complete repertoire against the classical Slav, a popular opening, in which Black can choose from a wide range of plans. In the Slav White often has more space but to turn this into an advantage he needs to know the typical strategic and tactical motifs of the opening and has to develop a feeling for the nuances of the position.

    1. e4 - How to Tame the Alekhine, Scandinavian and Pirc - Viktor Bologan
    Catalog Code: WIN0381CB

While almost everybody is spending 95% of his opening preparation time on major lines, there are some tricky players including strong GMs (I am not an exception) who prepare for their opponents some side lines, which contain many an underwater reef. I decided to collect those secondary openings in one single DVD. From now on openings such as the Pirc, the Scandinavian and the Alekhine Defences will not appear to you in your nightmares any more. The 1.e4 player should be actually thank Black for choosing these openings, since he is providing White with a better centre, a stable advantage and generally speaking pleasant play. The only thing White needs to do is to spend some time studying the lines. I will not bother you with encyclopaedic approach. There is a more practical way.

The Berlin Wall - Victor Bologan
    Catalog Code: WIN0469CB

The Berlin Wall, also known as the Berlin Defense, is one of the most solid and frequently played openings of the 21st century, and compared to the real Berlin Wall, there’s almost no chance of it falling. The DVD is divided into two parts. In the first section, we look at what happens when White avoids the endgame in the “Anti-Berlin” systems, while the second section deals with the Berlin ending. Add the Berlin Wall into your repertoire and pass the headache of “what to play against it?” to your opponent!

The aim of this DVD is to provide the player with White with a complete repertoire. 3.Nd2 is an excellent weapon with which to fight the French Defence. as the author of this DVD explains. Based as it is on his personal experience and the latest theoretical developments, this DVD is an excellent starting point from which to learn how to play 3. Nd2, the Tarrasch Variation.

    Catalog Code: WIN0120CB

Many chessplayers consider Albin’s Countergambit (1.d4 d5 2.c4 e5) nothing more than a relict of romantic chess, connecting with it – at most – the names of the old masters like Lasker, Aljechin, Janowski, Marshall and Keres.

    The 4... Nf6 Caro-Kann - Nigel Davies
    Catalog Code: WIN0497CB

The dynamic 4...Nf6 line of the Caro-Kann has been unfashionable in recent years whilst the theory on 4...Bf5 and 4...Nd7 now extends well into the middle game. 4…Nf6 therefore offers a golden opportunity for Caro-Kann players to throw their opponents on their own resources – and here even top Grandmasters can go wrong. On this DVD Nigel Davies examines both the Bronstein-Larsen (5.Nxf6+ gxf6) and the Tartakower (5.Nxf6+ exf6) systems.

    A Dynamic Weapon Against the Queen's Gambit Decline - 5. bf4 - Simon Williams
    Catalog Code: WIN0456CB

This DVD concentrates on the increasingly popular 5.Bf4 variation of the Queen’s Gambit Declined and gives White a dynamic and aggressive weapon against Black’s set-up. White puts his bishop on f4 to avoid the exchanges that often occur after 5.Bg5 and as early as possible wants to put pressure on Black. At the highest level the variation with 5.Bf4 has become much more popular than the more traditional 5.Bg5 line. Top players such as Alexei Shirov, Vladimir Kramnik, Levon Aronian, Wesley So and Anish Giri play it, and Vishy Anand used it in his only victory over Carlsen in the 2014 World Chess Championship. This DVD recommends dynamic lines for White against all set-ups by Black and gives you a good, aggressive, and reliable weapon against the Queen’s Gambit Declined.

A World Champions Repertoire Against The Queen's Gambit Declined - Robert Ris
    Catalog Code: WIN0411CB

Back in the 1950s, it was Botvinnik who popularised the Exchange Variation of the Queen’s Gambit Declined. The setup, which involves putting the knight on e2 in combination with castling kingside, was revolutionary at that time. Until then, White had either placed his knight on f3 with the idea of s tarting a minority attack on the queenside, or on e2, where it was normally associated with the intention of castling queenside and preparing a pawn storm against the Black King. K asparov, Botvinnik’s pupil, would soon follow in his mentor’s footsteps, bringing yet further refinements to this flexible system.

Reti - A Repertoire for White - Victor Bologan
    Catalog Code: WIN0518CB

The development of the knight to f3, followed by the attack on the centre with c4, was played by almost all great champions of the past. The most valuable investment into this opening was made by Richard Reti, who scored a couple of victories with it in the 1920s, but what would it look like without Capablanca’s games or Smyslov’s fine ideas? Nowadays the main protagonist of 1.Nf3 with White is Vladimir Kramnik, who has in my opinion the deepest strategical knowledge and understanding in chess. Especially the Reti is designed for those players who like strategy, manoeuvres and plans. Who like to avoid opening tons of theory, the jungle of forced lines. In this DVD, I tried to deal with all possible Black reactions against 1.Nf3. Naturally, there is much theory left outside of it, but a repertoire for White for sure is inside.

Never too Late for the Nimzo-Indian - Victor Bologan
    Catalog Code: WIN0356CB

Bologans way to the Nimzo-Indian was very long and difficult. Which he now regrets a lot: “I would better start it when I was young. First I played only the King’s Indian against 1.d4, later I learned Black’s Knights Tango, which already had some elements of the Nimzo-Indian and only in the new millenium I included the Nimzo Indian into my repertoire.” This period coincided with the period of winning the Dortmund 2003 tournament, when he managed to hold with Black against Vladimir Kramnik in the decisive last round in a Nimzo with 4.Qc2. The Moldavian grandmaster recommends the Nimzo-Indian to players of all levels, because it’s complex and simple at the same time. It teaches one very important thing in chess - how to play with the knight against a bishop. The Nimzo- Indian therefore has the same importance as the Ruy Lopez after 1.e4. This DVD is aimed to give Black a clear idea what to do against 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 which is considered the strongest move order by White. Video running time: 4 hours 14 min. Together with the Nimzo-Indian and the Catalan it forms the so called “Classical Setup”, which any player should know. The Queen’s Indian is a favorite of both top players and amateurs. Victor Bologan has enjoyed the advantages of the Queen’s Indian defense for many years in open and in top tournament. He says: “The soul of the opening, the most important piece, is course the bishop on b7. Please remember this and keep it active.” Every chess enthusiast, from beginner to high level player, can profit from this DVD. Ever since the Kasparov-Kramnik World Championship Match held in London in 2000, players with the white pieces have been trying to crack the formidable Berlin Wall in the Ruy Lopez. There may also have been some successes for White of course, but time and again Black has convincingly demonstrated how to equalize or even how to construct an impregnable fortress. Catalog Code: WIN0457CB

The Schliemann (or Jaenisch) Gambit, 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 f5, languished in semi-obscurity before top GM Teimour Radjabov revolutionised the opening with new ideas, defending his analysis with excellent results in Linares and elsewhere against the world’s best players. Black plays actively and aggressively from move 3, frequently sacrificing a pawn for open lines, kingside activity and the bishop pair. In this DVD Sam Collins provides a complete and detailed repertoire for Black. Numerous novelties and improvements are suggested, with the conclusion that White has no clear route to an opening advantage. Refresh your repertoire and avoid the Spanish Torture with 3…f5!

Viktor Bologan has played the Pirc all his life and explains why he likes this opening: “Strong Grandmasters, International Masters or amateurs often ask me what they should play with Black against 1.e4 if they want to play for a win. Sometimes I say ‘Just play your opening and play it good’ but sometimes you need to or want to get your opponent out of his comfort zone, out of his preparation. This often happens in open tournaments where you have to play for a win with both colors. I have played the Modern Pirc all my life and it has brought me a lot of success.
