Product Description

The Spring of 1975 saw the rebirth of Chess Voice with the new Editor, John Larkins, at the helm. He began published topical, interesting chess articles that were well written...with a dash of whimsy! The April-May 1975 issue had, "Cherryland Cafe: Mecca for Bay Area Chess Players" by Mike Padovani; a delightful look at a all night chess paradise. The December-January 1976-77 issue had, "Jude Acers Analyses Bobby Fischer": Don Thackrey interview the one and only Jude Acers. The April-May 1978 issue brought another treat by the poet chess master, Dennis Fritzinger, "Adventure in the Vineyards": about his adventures at the Paul Masson tournament. "Rams, Roms, Bytes and Chips" by John Larkins and Larry Wagner; about the world's first microcomputer chess tourney came out in the June-July 1978 issue.

The next issue had, "The Lone Wolf, an Interview with Bent Larsen" by R. E. Fauber. Around this time, the Association of Chess Journalists voted Chess Voice the "Best State or Regional Publication of 1978."A people person, John brought players to life while describing their games, tournament scores and exploits, within the pages of Chess Voice. One of the best chess articles ever written about chess appeared in the June-September 1979 issue: "How the Whales Got Unlucky at Masson", again by the poet chess master Dennis Fritzinger. This was John Larkins last issue as Editor. Chess Voice was again voted the "Best State or Regional Publication of 1979."
