To pamper you, The House of Staunton is proud to offer the Collector Series Luxury Chess set. This full-tournament sized Chess set features. A full tournament-sized Chess set, it features a 3.75" King with a 1.7" diameter base. The Chess pieces are hand carved by our master artisans and crafted out of the highest grade woods. The Chess pieces are heavily weighted with luxurious billiard cloth base pads and a beautiful finish. The Collector Series Luxury Chess set has been crafted to replicate the design and proportions of the original Staunton pattern Chessmen, registered by Nathaniel Cooke in March of 1849. The distinctive feature of this set is the the open-mitered Bishop and Knight design, which is modeled after the noble steeds from the Greek Parthenon (Elgin Marbles.)
As with all of our Chessmen, the Collector Series Luxury Chess set exemplifies a perfect combination of distinct beauty and functionality. It has been designed to withstand the rigors of practical play while maintaining an elegance which has become the hallmark of a House of Staunton chess set. The Chessmen are new and each set consists of 34 Chessmen, including four Queens, a standard that was introduced by The House of Staunton in 1993.
What is an imperfect set?
Imperfect consists of items that are deemed below the House of Staunton's already high quality standards. Because these products do not meet or exceed our inspection standards, we are able to pass enormous savings to you!
The inspection for this set details the following:
- The King is Blood Rosewood instead of Genuine Ebony. (As seen in Photograph).
- Both of the Genuine Ebony Queens crowns are chipped. (As seen in Photograph).
- Both of the Genuine Ebony Rooks have damages to the bases of the chess pieces. (As seen in Photograph).
- One of the Genuine Ebony Knights has a hairline crack in its base. (As seen in Photograph).
- Four of the Genuine Ebony Pawns have damages to the pieces and one of the Pawns is from a different cutting. (As seen in Photograph).
- The Natural Boxwood King is missing its finial. (As seen in Photograph).
- One of the Natural Boxwood Pawns has a small mark in its base and five of the other Pawns are from a different cutting. (As seen in Photograph).
