Setting Up the Pieces

This position is how you set up a chess board. The Black pieces go by the 7 and 8 while the White pieces go by the 1 and 2. There should always be a right square in the bottom right corner whether you are facing White’s direction or Black’s direction.

The pawns go in front of the pieces, the rooks are in the corners with the knights sitting next to them. The bishops stand next to the King and Queen. The Queens always are placed on their color: the White queen on the light square and the Black queen on the dark square.
